The MLX90217 is a self adjusting digital output rotating position gear tooth sensor designed for automotive camshaft sensing and other speed sensing applications. It is designed to be used with a bias magnet facing the back (unmarked) side of the IC. This device has a collector open circuit output with short circuit protection. The MLX90217 is a precision IC with on-chip 10 bit A/D converters and logic, which can be used as a digital sampling and holding circuit. A separate 4-bit A/D converter provides fixed hysteresis. 90217 has no chopper delay. 90217 uses a single Hall plate and is not affected by rotation alignment issues. The size of the bias magnet can range from 50 to 400mT. MLX90217LUA-CAA-000-BU When the signal is sampled, the logic will recognize an increase or decrease in flux density. After the magnetic flux reaches its peak and decreases by an amount equal to the hysteresis, the output will open (BOP). Similarly, after the magnetic flux reaches its minimum value and increases by an amount equal to the hysteresis, the output will turn off (BRP).
