Chip scams frequently appear at the end of the year, one of the common scams is to buy imported chips, grind off the original logo and print their own logo, and then sell it as a self-developed product to defraud scientific research funds. For example, Chen Jin once bought MOTOROLA Freescale 56800 chips in the United States, commissioned Shanghai Hanji Building Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd. to erase the original trademark, and then change the logo and words of "Hanxin No. 1", in order to defrauding the Chinese government of 110 million yuan of scientific research funds.

Another kind of scam is that after learning that a buyer is looking for a Qualcomm chip, the scammer will contact the buyer through some channels and attract the buyer to buy with false prices and promises.

The emergence of these scams reflects the problems of China's semiconductor industry. Although China produces a lot of chips, these chips are not China's own technology.  This makes China extremely dependent on chips, spending $350 billion a year to buy chips, which poses a risk to China's national security. Therefore, the Chinese government has attached great importance to the development of the semiconductor industry at the national level. However, the emergence of these scams has undoubtedly had a negative impact on the development of China's semiconductor industry.
